Mixing your own e liquids enables you to perfectly tailor your vape juice to both your taste and your equipment. DIY e liquids could also save you money which has to be a good thing. It isn’t difficult to create delicious flavours. You only need to invest in a few ingredients and accessories because mixing juice is no more complicated than creating a cocktail. We have everything you need to get started here at TMB Notes.

The benefits of mixing your own vape juice

There’s a wonderful array of e liquid flavours to choose from but there’s nothing quite like creating your own. For a start, you could reduce the costs of vaping. You could also mix e liquids in larger volumes than those available over the counter. This makes life easier and could prevent the manufacture of yet more little plastic bottles which are problematic to the environment. If your favourite flavours are not available with VG ratios that suit your tank, problem solved! Better still, you can craft the flavours that will truly delight your taste buds.

DIY e-liquid ingredients and accessories

You only require three ingredients to mix amazing e liquids – flavour concentrate, base liquid and nicotine shots. You will also need a few accessories such as measuring cylinders, syringes, protective gloves and bottles.

How to mix DIY E liquids

  • Invest in flavour concentrates that tempt your taste buds. Always check the packaging or product listings to establish the recommended concentration to use. Too much flavour can be overpowering or unpleasant and the amount you require does vary according to the nature of the flavour.
  • You should then settle upon the right base. Base liquids feature a blend of vegetable glycerine (VG) and propylene glycol (PG). The ratio of each varies and you should choose a base with a VG/PG ratio that is appropriate for your device. High VG e liquids will quickly clog the high resistance coils of many starter kits and vape pens. High PG bases are unsuitable for sub ohm coils.
  • If you crave a nicotine fix, you will also need to invest in nicotine shots. These are available in a variety of nicotine strengths. Do bear in mind that adding your nic shot to your base will dilute its strength. For instance, an 18mg 10ml shot added to 50ml of base liquid will give you juice with a nicotine strength of 3mg.
  • Establishing the correct proportion of each ingredient to use involves some relatively complicated maths. If it’s a while since you did your GCSE, make use of an online e liquid calculator or an app to establish the right recipe for your vape juice.
  • Use a syringe or a pipette to dispense the correct volume of each ingredient into your bottle. Nicotine is a toxic substance and so you should wear gloves when mixing to protect your skin.
  • Allow your e liquid to steep in order for the flavour to develop. Steeping times vary according to the nature of the flavour.
  • Test your juice by vaping it. You may need to tweak your recipe if your flavours are not to your liking. Record your recipes for future reference once you are happy with them.
  • Store your e liquids in a cool, dry and dark place. Ensure that they are out of the reach of children and pets.
